Clarence J. Van Houten, age 86 of Waupun, died on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at the Christian Home.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wed, Aug. 8, at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 W. Main Street, Waupun with Pastor Mike Giebink officiating. A private inurnment will be in the Alto Cemetery.

Clarence’s family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Wednesday beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of services.

Memorials may be directed to the Christian Home and Rehabilitation Center in Waupun.

Clarence was born on January 12, 1926 in Alto, a son of Jacob and Anna (Bouwkamp) Van Houten. He grew up on the farm and always had an interest and love of the country, farm equipment, and his collection of toy tractors. On April 19, 1952, he married Gretchen Kwakkel in the Alto Christian Reformed Church. Clarence owned and operated his own milk truck, hauling for the Alto Dairy eight years. For 20 years, he was employed at M & M Foundry in Waupun. Clarence also worked at Mayville Metal for thirteen years. He was Mr. Fix-it, and also enjoyed creating gadgets. Clarence was a kind, gentle, honest man with a strong faith, and he loved talking about his Lord and Savior. He was devoted to his family; a faithful husband, loving father, and proud grandfather and great-grandfather. Clarence was a member of Edgewood Community Church in Waupun.

Clarence is survived by Gretchen, his wife of sixty years, his son, James and his wife Linda Van Houten, his daughters; Joyce McCoy, and Janet and her husband Ron Drefhal, his son, Jon and his wife Sue Van Houten. He is further survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sons-in-law, Terry Radant, and Robert Larson, his brother Roy Van Houten, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Larson.
