Gordon Lyle Umbreit, age 84, of Randolph, died on Friday, February 24, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison.
Lyle’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Randolph United Methodist Church, 227 N High St., on Saturday, March 3, 2012 beginning at 1 p.m. with a memorial service to be held at 2 p.m. Pastor Young Choe will officiate, and Military honors will be presented by Randolph VFW Post 9510.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Lyle’s name.
Lyle was born on December 21, 1927 in Randolph, a son of Arvin and Blanche (Walker) Umbreit. He attended Randolph schools graduating with the Class of 1945. He enlisted with the United States Army and served his country during the Korean Conflict. On August 20, 1956, he was united in marriage to Annette Richardson at the Randolph United Methodist Church. Lyle was employed with the Randolph Post Office, working as a clerk for ten years, and then as a rural mail carrier for 24 years. He liked fishing, hunting, and camping. He enjoyed searching for and collecting agates and stones, some of which he fashioned into jewelry. He willingly gave of his time, and could be called on to fix just about anything. Lyle was a friend to everyone. His sense of humor and kind, compassionate spirit will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Lyle is survived by Annette, his wife of 55 years, his son, Michael (Julie) Umbreit, Lisle, IL, his daughter, Terri Mulder, Fond du Lac, four grandchildren; Shana Lane, Fond du Lac, Tamra (Craig) Ebel, Appleton, Adam Umbreit, Naperville, IL, Emily Umbreit, Fond du Lac, two great-grandchildren; Shelby and Makenna, one sister, Lois (Eric) Huizenga, Randolph, a brother-in-law, Claire (Sylvia) Richardson, Prairie du Sac, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Lynn Huizenga.
Randolph Community Funeral Home is serving the family.
