Earl Donald Corser, age 90, of Waupun went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 15th, 2011. He was born on October 2nd, 1921 in Holdingford, Minnesota, the son of the late Henry Louis Corser and Betty (Smith).
Earl married the love of his life, Phyllis Gail Schaumburg on October 4th, 1942. Both graduates of Goodrich High School in Fond du Lac and friends since childhood, Earl and Phyllis eloped to Myrtle Beach, SC while he was on a short leave from the Army. He was redeployed 3 days later. A Corporal with the 60th Infantry, 9th Division, Company B, he served his country during World War II with honor.
Upon his return, Earl attended classes at UW Madison before he and Phyllis settled in Waupun, WIand started their family. He worked as a Machinist for National Rivet in Waupun from 1950 to 1982. His talent and skill with electronics lead him to start his own business from home. Corser TV Service was a passion and a hobby throughout his career.
Earl and his family were members of Pella Lutheran Church in Waupun. As an Elder and a Trustee of Pella, he devoted much of his free time to helping the church and its members in any way that he could. From Cookie Walks and fund raisers to projects and repairs, his Pella family knew that he could always be counted on to lend a hand. He believed in sharing Pella’s message and for more than 25 years he worked with local radio stations to record and broadcast Sunday services to the communities of Waupun, Fond du Lac and Beaver Dam. Each week he made a special visit to the Christian Home in Waupun to share Pella’s recorded services with the residents and staff. His faith was an important piece of his life and giving back to others was part of who he was.
For most of his life, he volunteered with the Bethesda Lutheran Communities, an organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Always on hand to help with fundraisers and the local Bethesdastores, he used his technical skills to repair donated broken electronics and appliances for resale.
When he wasn’t tinkering with TVs and radios, he spent many hours nurturing his gardens. His quiet home was surrounded by beautiful greens and flowering bushes with an amazing display of red roses that greeted you at the front door. When the seasons changed and the raking was done, he moved inside to his favorite chair to watch the Packers. An avid fan, who never missed a game, he enjoyed his favorite pastime on Sundays after church dressed in green and gold.
In October 2011, Earl celebrated his 90th birthday with family and friends. He was honored during a Sunday service at Pella Lutheran followed by a luncheon with his family and friends. Those who knew him best came from near and far to celebrate with stories, pictures, hugs and laughter, the life of a man who touched us all.
