Gerald R. Van Doren

Gerald Russell Van Doren, age 81 of Alto, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at his home.

Gerald was born on October 26, 1929 on the home farm near Markesan, a son of Sam and Rose (Schelter) Van Doren. Gerald farmed with his dad as a young man, and also served with the United States National Guard for several years. He married Irene Navis on January 21, 1950 in Markesan. They lived in Ripon, and Gerald was employed with the Fred Rueping Leather Company in Fond du Lac for fourteen years. They moved near Alto where Gerald returned to his love of farming. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa and friend. Gerald enjoyed hunting and fishing, and his many trips out west with friends. He was a member of the Ripon United Methodist Church.

Gerald is survived by Irene, his wife of sixty-one years, his daughter Debra (Brian) Dommisse, Alto, his son Jim Van Doren, Alto, a grandson, Eric Dommisse, a granddaughter, Jennifer Dommisse, three great-grandchildren; Carressa, Kaylen, and Cynthia, and his sister, Beverly Henslin Ripon. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Sam Van Doren, and four sisters; Lucille Stollfus, Marion Long, Beatrice Buhrow, and Bernice Sturtz.

At Gerald’s request, there will be no services.
