Doris Jean Ely, age 75 of Waupun, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the Christian Home in Waupun.
Doris was born on August 14, 1935 in the town of Springvale, Fond du Lac County, the daughter of Herbert and Ida (Leu) Wustrack. Following her graduation from Brandon High School, Doris obtained her teaching certificate from Oshkosh College. Doris was employed with the Waupun School District as a teacher at the Lincoln Grade School for four years. On April 11, 1959, she was united in marriage to Maurice Ely. Doris thrived as a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother using her many domestic skills to care for her family. Sewing, gardening, cooking and baking were gifts Doris shared to make people feel welcomed and loved. She enjoyed reading and playing board games, especially Scrabble. Doris absolutely adored her grandchildren, and always looked forward to spending time with them. She was the family historian and stayed connected to her relatives. Doris was a woman of deep faith. She was a longtime member of St. Brendan Catholic Church of Brandan, and active in the St. Brendan’s Altar Society.
Doris is survived by Maurice, her husband of fifty-two years, three children; Daniel (Susann) Ely, Madison, Richard (Lois) Ely, Beaver Dam, Patrick (Bobbi) Ely, Lomira, three grandchildren; Eric Ely, Madison, Sarah and Alyssa Ely, Lomira, five step-grandchildren; Steven, Angie, Teresa, Stephanie, Samantha, and three step-great grandchildren, Jordan, Ethan, and Aireanna. She is further survived by her brother, Donald Wustrack, Stoughton, special nieces, Patti Dallman, Oshkosh, Mary Pearson, Wausau, and Barbie Roberts, New Orleans, her lifelong friend Angie Johnston, Brandon, and two sisters-in-law, Marlene Sauer, Neshkoro and Bonnie Wustrack, Eldorado, other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Leila, Kenny, Jim “Harley”, Alan, and Margie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at St. Brendan Catholic Church, 102 West Bowen Street, Brandon, with Rev. Michael Wild officiating. Inurnment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens.
Doris’ family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Thursday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service.
