Arthur Alvin Van Buren, Jr., 89 of Waupun, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at his home.

Art was born on June 8, 1921 in Waupun, the only son of Arthur and Jennie (Duitman) Van Buren. On May 2, 1946, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Beekman, and they had twenty-eight blessed years together until her death in 1974. Art married Gladys Yunto on June 15, 1979, and they also were blessed with many years together until she died in May of 2002. Art was a lifelong farmer in the Fox Lake area. He cherished special times hunting with his boys, especially for duck and pheasant. Art was a loving caregiver to both his wives during their long term illnesses. He was a dependable father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who was often found lending a helping hand. Art loved polka music and dancing. He also enjoyed raising dogs and horses. His regular visits with the residents at numerous area nursing homes were a highlight for him and the residents. Art was a longtime member of First Reformed Church of Waupun.

Art is survived by his five children; Wilbur (Elayne) Van Buren, Waupun, Allen (Noreen) Van Buren, Fox Lake, Delores (Allan) Ellcey, Juneau, Louise (Michael) Sawyer, Burnett, and Calvin (Julie) Van Buren, Markesan; eight grandchildren; Rich, Gary, Greg, Trisha, Kim, Crystal, Kyle, Kollin, three step-grandchildren; Eric, Chris, Melissa; nine great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; his special friend, Vi Collar, Markesan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wives; and a sister, Agnette Van Buren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at First Reformed Church, 422 West Franklin, with Rev. Bob James and Rev. Donald Boss officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Mound Cemetery.

Art’s family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, April 4, from 5 – 8 p.m. at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 West Main Street, and at the church on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. until the hour of services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
