Bertha Luella TerBeest, age 87 formerly of rural Markesan and Waupun, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Markesan Resident Home in Markesan.
Bertha was born on August 27, 1923 in Alto, the daughter of John and Lucy (Hopp) Vant Hoff. On February 19, 1943, she was united in marriage to Roy TerBeest in Waupun. Bertha lovingly cared for her family, enjoying the many tasks of maintaining a household. Cooking, baking, sewing and gardening were daily tasks that kept her busy creating a loving home. Bertha was also gifted at crocheting. She loved to travel with her husband and friends to various places. Bertha was a 4H leader for 25 years and a part of the World Home Bible League and a lifetime member of the Alto Reformed Church.
Bertha is survived by five children; Gerald (Diana) TerBeest, Markesan; Carol (Alton) Flegner, Brandon; Culver (Linda) TerBeest, Rhinelander; Beth (David) Venard, Brandon; Robert (Denise) TerBeest, Rhinelander; fifteen grandchildren; Kurt (Robin) TerBeest; Tracy (John) Doxtator; Jodi (Jim) Patterson; Steve (Traci) Flegner; Shelly (Rick) Pluim; Becky Schultz; Jason (Janelle) Flegner; Brenda (Randy) Frye; Natalie (Jim) Maurer; Janelle (Bill) Klenk; Shawn TerBeest; Samantha and Nicole Venard; Adam and Olivia TerBeest; thirteen great-grandchildren; Jonathan, Brittany, Derek, Drew, McKenna, Brice, Amanda, Katlyn, Meghan, Andrew, Gabrielle, Cameron, Tate, Cooper, Landon, Ethan; a brother-in-law Calvin (Donna) TerBeest; two sisters-in-law, Esther Vant Hoff, Randolph and Tillie Vant Hoff, Friesland; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband in May of 1998; three brothers Marvin, Ellsworth and Howard Vant Hoff; two sister, Junice (Joe) Sjoerdsma and Lucille (Ed) Kloostra.
A Celebration of Bertha’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at the Alto Reformed Church, N3697 County Road EE, with Rev. Ted Medema officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Mound Cemetery.
Bertha’s family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday at the church from 12:30 p.m. to the hour of service.
