Alfred J. Vander Werff, age 89 of Randolph, died on friday, Dec. 9, 2011 at his home surrounded by family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tues. Dec. 13, at First Reformed Church, 406 S. High Street, Randolph. Al's family will receive visitors on Monday evening at the church from 5 - 7 p.m. on on Tues. from 10 a.m. until the hour of service. A complete obituary will follow.

Al was born on April 10, 1922 to John and Dora (Bandsma) Vander Werff. John and Dora were born in the Friesland region in the Netherlandsand came to America where they eventually met and married and settled in Randolph. Al married Tillie Meekma on October 7, 1944 at the First Reformed Church of Randolph. They farmed outside of Randolphfor several years after they were married until Al purchased a milk route. He drove milk truck for 40 years before retiring. Al was a dedicated member of the Randolph First Reformed Church all of his life where he served as both a Deacon and an Elder. He was a man of integrity with Christian values and he truly loved his Lord. Al enjoyed golfing with his friends Cliff Syens, Newt Vander Woude, Sam Meekma and Ken Zieman at the Fox Lake Country Club. He enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Milwaukee Brewers. Al was a devoted family man; a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a quiet man who was very kind and thoughtful. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Al is survived by Tillie, his wife of 67 years; three children, Dennis (Sue) Vander Werff, Fox Lake, James (Judy) Vander Werff, Markesan, and Barbara Vander Werff, McFarland; five grandchildren, Craig (Julie) Vander Werff, Green Bay, Keri (Lee) Handwerger, Deephaven, MN, Jeremy Vander Werff, Markesan, Jenna Vander Werff, Middleton, Zackary Butson, Platteville; three great-grandchildren, Jacob and Kaitlyn Vander Werff, and Simon Handwerger; a brother, Paul Vander Werff, Beaver Dam; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill Krentz, Markesan; Arleen “Bebe” Vander Werff, Randolph, Henrietta Vander Werff, Waupun, Ted and Evelyn Meekma, Beaver Dam and Bradenton, FL, Evelyn Meekma, Randolph; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers; Rudy, John, Louis and Edward, and one sister, Anna Marie.

A memorial fund has been established for the First Reformed Church of Randolph, and Hillside Hospice of Beaver Dam.
