Dirk De Jager

Dirk De Jager, age 84 of Randolph, went to be with his heavenly Father on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Golden Living Center– Continental Manor in Randolph surrounded by his family.

Dirk was born on July 27, 1927in Costdengaradeel, Holland, a son of Fred and Jenny (Terpstra) De Jager. As a young man, he was in the Holland Army until his family immigrated to Americain 1947. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Germanyduring the Korean Conflict. On December 30, 1953, Dirk married Dorothy Ringnalda at the Christian Reformed Church in Mt. Vernon, WA. They moved to Wisconsinin 1960, and Dirk was employed by the Randolph Lumbar Yard until 1974. In 1975 He became a U.S. citizen. Dirk started his own business and worked as a mason for many years until his retirement.

Dirk enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and his model trains. He was proud of his military service and was an active member of the VFW Post 9510 of Randolph, where he was a past commander. After retiring from masonry, Dirk stayed active as a volunteer driver for elderly citizens of Dodge County. He also drove for the Amish families for 13 years. He was a longtime faithful member of the Second Christian Reformed Church of Randolph.
Dirk is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 57 years; four sons; Fredrick De Jager, Gerald (Annette) De Jager, Michael (Emma) De Jager, Douglas (Deborah) De Jager, all of Randolph, two daughters; Doreen (Rodney) Wolc, Beaver Dam, Denise (Lenny) Fischer, Randolph; fifteen grandchildren; John Farrington and his fiancé Stacey, Jana (Michael) Adams, Jean De Jager, Richard De Jager, Jerad De Jager, Cassandra (Terry) Cruckson, Jerica De Jager, Mark Fischer, Nichole (Chris) McCreary, Derek De Jager, Jodee DeJager, Jenny Wolc, Benjamin Fischer, Anna Fischer, Catie Wolc; and two great grandchildren, Evyn and Autum Adams. Dirk is further survived by three brothers, Frank (Katherine) De Jager, Waupun, Lambert (Bessie) De Jager, Alto, John (Arlene) De Jager, Waupun and two sisters, Etta Schregardus, Randolph, Gert (Harold) Mulder, Waupun, sisters-in-law; Betty De Jager, MI, Ruby Zeger, Salem, OR, Barb (Albert) Vinkes, Lynden, WA, Ellen Ringnalda, Vancover, WA, and, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Dirk; a brother, Eldon De Jager; two infant sisters; and three brothers-in-law, Jim Schregardus, Clarence Katsma, and Thomas Ringnalda.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m.on Thursday, October 20, at the Second Christian Reformed Church, 332 Tamarack Street, Randolph with Rev. Karl Bratt officiating. Burial will follow in the Randolph Cemetery with military honors provided by Randolph VFW Post 9510.

Dirk’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the church from 5 – 8 p.m.and on Thursday from 10 a.m.until the hour of service.

A memorial fund has been established in Dirk’s name.

The De Jager family appreciates all the excellent care given to Dirk during his stay at Continental Manor,, and the compassionate care provided by the staff of Hillside Hospice.
