Jeanette Posthuma, age 85 of Waupun and formerly of Friesland, went to her heavenly Home on Monday, August 01, 2011 at Waupun Memorial Hospital.
Jane was born on July 29, 1926 in Redlands, CA, a daughter of Peter and Susie (Kloostra) Brandsma. As a young woman, Jane moved with her family to the Friesland area in 1942, and worked at the Hardware Store in Friesland. On August 2, 1946, she was united in marriage to John H. Posthuma, and they worked on farms near Waupun and Cambria, eventually purchased their own farm near Dalton. Jane enjoyed her life as a farm wife and mother. She excelled at sewing, and made all the clothing for her children. She kept busy with her vegetable garden, canning, and baking, especially known for her apple pie. Following their retirement from farming, Jane worked at Alsum Produce grading potatoes until she was nearly eighty years old. She was a member of First Reformed Church of Friesland where she was a fourth grade Sunday School teacher for many years. Jane also participated in Dorcus Circle and Mission Guild.
Jane is survived by her four children; Virginia (Ron) Hart, Friesland, Steven Posthuma, Waupun, and his special friend, Elaine Marshall; Georgia “Jody” (Ross) Henken, Burnett; and Wylene (Jerry) Meyer, Morrison, CO. She is further survived by eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; Jessie Brandsma, Grand Rapids, MI, and Jane Jansma, Randolph; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1993, a daughter, Patricia, in 1970; and two brothers, Peter and Herman Brandsma.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at First Reformed Church, 107 E. Winnebago Street, Friesland, with Rev. Rob Ford officiating. Burial will follow in the FrieslandCemetery.
Jeanette’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, August 3, at the Randolph Community Funeral Home, 208 S. High Street, Randolph, from 6 – 8 p.m., and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m.until the hour of service.
A memorial fund has been established in Jane’s name.
