John William Zuhlke, age 33 of Markesan, died on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Berlin Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. He was welcomed into the arms of the Lord after a courageous nine-month battle with colon cancer.
John was born on January 13, 1978 in Beaver Dam, the son of William and Deanna (Huitema) Zuhlke. He attended Markesan District Schools graduating with the Class of 1996. On October 16, 1999 John married Jacqueline Jones in Randolph. His passion for agriculture began at a very young age that continued into adulthood. John was employed with United Cooperative as an agronomist. He enjoyed the outdoors; taking walks, playing softball and golfing. He was very hospitable and enjoyed cookouts and bonfires with friends and family. Being a dad was the highlight of his life. John was a collector of toy semi’s, farm equipment, and his 1985 Firebird. John had a contagious, engaging smile that lit up the room. He exemplified strength, humility, and courage, leaving a testimony of unwavering faith. John was blessed to attend Terrace Shores Evangelical Free Church near Green Lake.
John is survived by Jackie, his wife of twelve years, his daughter, Morgan Zuhlke, age 13, his son, Grant Zuhlke, age 9, his parents, Bill and Deanna Zuhlke, Beaver Dam, two sisters; Jennifer (Jeffrey Ludolph) Garcia-Ludolph, Madison and Sarah (Craig) Bergemann, Ripon, nephews; Tyler and Evan Bergemann and Xavier Garcia, his grandmothers, Ann Zuhlke, Randolph and Roma (Curtis) Lambrecht, uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Clarence Zuhlke and Nelson Huitema.
A Celebration of John’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at First Reformed Church, 406 South High Street, Randolph with Rev. Gary Zacharias officiating. Burial will be in Mackford Cemetery, Markesan.
John’s family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Monday, June 27 from 4:30 – 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.
A memorial fund is being established in John’s name.
