Delores Elaine Alexander, age 80 of Waupun and formerly of Brownsville, died on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at her son’s rural Juneau residence.
Delores was born on June 26, 1930 in Waupun, the daughter of James Van Saane and LeRoy and Elsie (Hasenfuss) Calkins. She graduated from Waupun High School in 1949, and was employed at Super Ice Cream Shop for twelve years, and it was here that she met her husband Earl. Delores attended beauty school in Milwaukee, earning her beautician’s license. On August 2, 1958, she was united in marriage to Earl Alexander at Pella Lutheran Church in Waupun, where she was a lifelong member. As a faithful member she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. For eight years Delores owned and operated Dairy Delight, her own ice cream shop. Most of her years were spent caring for her family. She was a loving, devoted wife; wonderful mother and grandmother. She enjoyed crocheting afghan’s which became treasured gifts for her family and friends. Delores also mastered hairpin lace.
She will be missed by her six surviving children; Jon Alexander and Karen of Juneau, WI; Kurt Alexander and his friend Teresa Bahr, Council Bluffs, Iowa; Paul and his wife Kim Alexander, Hartford, WI; Daniel and his partner Scot Brady, Inver Grove Heights, MN; Sherri and her husband Sean Pritchard, Mishicot, WI; Janelle Alexander and her friend Dave Anderson, Germantown, WI; four grandchildren; Marcus Alexander, Alyssa Pritchard, Matthew Gehrman, and Ashlee Alexander; her brother, David and his wife Diane Calkins of Cleves, OH; a sisters-in-law; Ione (John) Panzer, Brownsville, and Gretchen Franke, Fond du Lac, WI., nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981; her parents; one sister, Diane Calkins; a step-brother, Leroy Franke, and sister-in-law, Hope (Jim) McCauley.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 3, 2011 at Pella Lutheran Church, 315 S. Madison Street, Waupun, with Rev. Michael Stock officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens.
Delores’ family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, January 2, 2011 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 West Main Street, Waupun, and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Delores’ name.
