Frederick Joseph Schraven, age 91 of Waupun, passed away on September 8, 2010 at the Christian Home in Waupun.

Fred “Bud” was born on July 18, 1919 to Frank and Alma (Funk) Schraven. He entered into service with the United States Army in January of 1942 and trained at Fort Knox, Kentucky before leaving for Europe where he served as a medic. He was wounded in Anzio and received the Purple Heart, and returned to the United States. On September 15, 1945 he married Evelyn Mertens Deaver at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and they farmed with her parents near Waupun. They enjoyed camping, square dancing, and traveling all over the world. After retiring from farming, he worked at Moraine Park Technical Institute as a custodian. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Evelyn passed away in 1996 in Palm Springs CA, and not long after Bud became a resident of the Christian Homestead. Bud was a member of the American Legion Post 210 of Waupun, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Bud is survived by his step children, Ellen Veto of Apache Junction, AZ; Jean (Richard) Towne, Ames Deaver, both of Waupun; Glen (Dolores) Deaver of Brandon; and Verda Berkers of Waupun. He is further survived by twenty step grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; nephews, Bruce, Gary, and Brian Fryda; and a niece Barbara Moulter, as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Evelyn his wife of fifty years; two step-children, Veronica Deaver and Roy Veto; two step- grandsons, Ronald Deaver and Kurt Landaal, two sisters, Winifred (Alfred) Fryda Dixon, and Regina (Frank) Fryda, and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish Center, 26 North Division St., Waupun, with the Rev. Michael Sturm officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waupun Military Honors provided by American Legion Post 210.

Bud’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Parish on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of services.
