Burton George Larson, age 96 of Waupun, died on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at the Christian Home of Waupun, surrounded by his loving family.
Burt was born on December 17, 1913 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Harold and Josephine (Steen) Larson. He graduated from Waupun High School with the Class of 1932. On October 2, 1936, Burt was united in marriage to Alice Pluim at the First Reformed Church Parsonage. He served his country as a member of the Merchant Marines during World War II. Burt was employed with the shoe factory in Beaver Dam for a short time. He transferred to shoe factories in both Iowa and Indiana for the next several years where he worked as a foreman. The family returned to the Wisconsin area where Burt owned and operated an A & W restaurant in Kaukauna. He became interested in the trucking industry, purchased an oil tanker, and transported petroleum. He later owned and operated Larson’s Trucking Company, delivering sand and gravel in and around Waupun. As a true outdoorsman, Burt was a fisherman and enjoyed hunting, taking many trips out west. He also enjoyed golfing. Burt was an avid sports fan following the Milwaukee Braves and Brewers, and the Green Bay Packers.
Burt is survived by Alice, his wife of seventy-four years; his son Larry and his wife Joann Larson of Berlin; his daughter Jill and her husband Randy Guenther of Waupun; four grandchildren, Jodi (Bob) Tank, Brandon, Jack (Wanda) Larson, Waupun, Alison (Mark) Thompson, Oshkosh, Brad (Emily) Guenther, Madison; eight great-grandchildren, Nathan, Matthew, and Nicholas Tank, Tim Wuebben, Bailey and Shelby Larson, and Andy and Brent Thompson, a grandson-in-law, Dave Wuebben, Hortonville; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Lauri Wuebben; and a sister, Harriett Rohr.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 West Main Street, Waupun, with the Rev. Roger Knowlton officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun.
Burt’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service.
A Memorial Fund has been established in Burt’s name.
