Edward Thomas King, age 85 of Randolph, died on May 4, 2010 at Columbus Community Hospital.

Edward was born on December 31, 1924 in the Town of Courtland, a son of Edward and Amelia (Wichinski) King. He attended Randolph schools graduating with the Class of 1943. Edward served his country during World War II with the United States Navy, serving as a corpsman with the Marines, arriving on Iwo Jima on D-Day. On May 3, 1947, he was united in marriage to Shirley Yonkie at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Randolph. Ed was a lifelong area resident and active in the Village of Randolph as an EMT and Volunteer Fireman. He worked for Educators Progress Service for forty-eight years. Ed was a sports enthusiast and in his younger days, he played first baseman for the baseball league in Randolph. He loved all sports and enjoyed league bowling and square dancing with Shirley. Ed had many fond memories of hunting with family members. He enjoyed helping others, and for many years was a volunteer driver for Dodge County. Ed also assisted J. P. and John George Schmidt with funeral home work. The highlight of any day was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ed was a member of Annunciation Catholic Parish and belonged to the VFW Post 9510.

Edward is survived by Shirley, his wife of sixty-three years; four children, Judy (Marv) Siegert, Madison, Steven King and Michael King, both of Randolph, Patti (Paul) Toben, Waterloo; six grandchildren, Kim (Michael) Waterfield, Hartland, Amy (Chris) Arenz, Kristen (Matt) Wieseckel, both of Madison, Jake Toben, Eric Toben, and Katelyn Toben, all of Waterloo; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Delores (Bob) Freitag, Florida; and a brother-in-law, Sherwood Jenkins, Randolph; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and a faithful black lab, Lida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Ardis Jenkins; and a brother Menard, in infancy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Annunciation Catholic Parish, 305 Green Street, Fox Lake, with the Rev. Michael Wild officiating. Burial will be in the Annunciation Catholic Cemetery in Randolph.

Edward’s family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of services.

A Memorial Fund has been established in Edward’s name for the Athletic Booster Club of the Randolph High School.
