Jennie De Jager, age 98 of Randolph, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2010, at Golden Years Living – Continental Manor in Randolph.
Jennie was born on September 10, 1911, in Friesland, WI, a daughter to Louie and Jessie (Bosma) Gaastra. She attended school in Friesland and worked at Tillema’s Store for a few years. She married Tuenis Cupery, and they had three sons. They were divorced and Jennie was later united in marriage to Ted W. De Jager on March 12, 1946 in the Friesland Church Hall. She worked hard along side her husband, and they raised their children on a farm near Friesland. They retired from farming and moved to the Village of Randolph in 1970. Jennie was employed at Jung’s Seed Company for ten years. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, and embroidering. Jennie was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who left a legacy of great faith in God. She was a member of First Randolph CRC for over sixty years where she was active in the Martha’s Circle.
Jennie is survived by two sons, Leonard (Doris) Cupery; Ted (Pat) De Jager, both of Cambria; her daughter-in-law, Margaret Cupery, Cambria; her son-in-law, Ken (Elaine) Homan, Waupun; her stepson, Wally (Gerry) De Jager, Duluth, GA; her step-daughter, Sylvia (Jack) Wiersma, Friesland; thirty-five grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She is further survived by two sisters, Elsie Syens and Clara Kloostra, both of Randolph; three sisters-in-law, Joan Gaastra of Markesan; Jean Gaastra of Cambria; and Charlotte Gaastra of Friesland; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jennie was preceded in death by both husbands; two sons, Peter and Richard Cupery; her daughter, Mary Homan; two sisters, Rena Dykstra and Dorothy Westra; five brothers, William, Peter, Charles, Louis, and Samuel; and step-children, Nellie Heeringa; Wilma Westra; and Harry De Jager.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 1, 2010 at First Christian Reformed Church, N8876 East Friesland Road, Randolph. The Rev. Karl Bratt will officiate and private family burial will be in Friesland Cemetery. There will be no visitation; a time of fellowship will follow the service at First Randolph Christian Reformed Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be directed to CRWRC Haiti Relief Fund.
