George Harry Akers

George Harry Akers, age 84 of Randolph, died peacefully on Friday, February 5, 2010 at Golden Living Center – Continental Manor in Randolph.

George was born in 1925 on the Fourth of July in Grayling Michigan, a son to Perry and Alvina (Dahmer) Akers. He served his country with the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. George was united in marriage to Lois Meinecke in November of 1947. Following the War, George developed his own Janitorial Supply business and serviced the southern Wisconsin area until 1980. On August 8, 1978, he married Nora Cothren in Port Washington, WI. George lived in the Randolph area for over thirty years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 521 of Fox Lake. George was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed being out in nature, especially hunting and fishing. George was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam.

George is survived by his children, Karen Akers, Menominee Falls, WI; Kerry Akers, Fox Lake; Beverly (Rick) Burk, Tulsa, OK; and Valarie Callies, Wausau; a daughter-in-law, Marty Akers; seven grandchildren, Rev. Barry (Paula) Akers; Pam Akers; Deb (Rob) Erdmann; Jessica Miszewski; Jennifer Miszeswski; Amanda Burk and Adam Burk; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; a brother, Bill (Ruth) Akers; and a sister Fern Duncan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by both wives; a son, Michael Akers; three brothers, Don, Leroy, and Bernie Akers.

A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 12, 2010 at Peace Lutheran Church, 400 Hillcrest Drive, Beaver Dam; with the Rev. Mark Wenzel officiating. Military honors will be provided by Robert W. Ginther American Legion Post 521. Inurnment will follow at Southern WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 21731 Spring Street in Union Grove.

George’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be addressed to Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. an organization to support members of the Armed Forces.
