Edward Clarence Flier

Edward Clarence Flier, age 88 of Waupun, died on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at Waupun Memorial Hospital.

Edward was born on October 6, 1921 in the Town of Waupun, Fond du Lac County, WI; a son of Henry and Hazel (Looman) Flier. He attended local schools, and as a young man worked on farms as a hired hand. On September 24, 1943, he was united in marriage to Mildred Ter Beest in Waupun. They farmed near the Waupun area for many years, eventually moving to town upon retiring. Edward was a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church of Waupun, where he served as an Elder, Deacon, Sunday School and Bible Class teacher. He was very involved with home visits, assisting his Pastors by ministering to the sick and homebound. Ed also enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels for many years with his wife. He loved to read and was a history buff. Ed had an excellent memory and loved visiting with people. He was a very appreciative man, dedicated to his Lord, and devoted to his wife and family.

Edward is survived by three daughters, Donna (Hal) Freriks, Waupun; Marcia (Larry) Medema, Appleton; Debra (Chuck) Bille, Waupun; and his son Harlan (Sandy) Flier, Waupun; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson; his sister, Janet Kok, Brandon; his brother, Harvey (Clara Mae) Flier, and a sister-in-law, Irene Ter Beest, Brandon. Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in May of 2009; his son Kenneth; and his brother, Cornelius Flier.

A Service to Celebrate Edward’s life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at First Reformed Church, 422 West Franklin Street, Waupun, with the Rev. Paul Wernlund officiating. Burial will follow in Alto Cemetery.

Edward’s family will receive relatives and friends from 4 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 W. Main Street, Waupun; and at the church on Thursday from 10 – 11 a.m.

A Memorial Fund has been established in Edward’s name.
