Winifred Edith Hillegas, age 92 of Waupun, died on Monday, November 23, 2009 at Waupun Memory Hospital.
Winifred was born on November 16, 1917 in the Township of Center, WI, the daughter of Fred and Caroline (Lilge) Mueller. She was united in marriage to Wayne M. Hillegas on November 13, 1937 in Black Creek. After living in the Appleton and Kaukauna areas for several years, Wayne and Winnie moved to Waupun in 1966. Winnie was a homemaker who enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was an avid doll collector and maker. Winnie provided child care for several families in Waupun. She was a loving mother who used her gift of nurturing to foster many children over the years. She was a member of Pella Lutheran Church.
Winnie is survived by her four sons, Wayne “Skip” (Cathy) Hillegas, Salida, CO; Ward (Kathleen) Hillegas, Middleton; Joel (Pam) Hillegas, Sachse, TX; and Paul (Sonja) Stoker, Byron, IL; her daughter, Cindi Hillegas; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne in 1996; and her sister Gertrude Peterson, three brothers Roy, Willard and Hank Mueller.
A Celebration of Winnie’s life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 30, 2009 at Pella Lutheran Church, 315 S. Madison Street, Waupun, with the Rev. Kenneth Loehrke and Rev. David Stevens officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton.
Winnie’s family will receive relatives and friends on Monday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services.
