Cornelius Flier

Cornelius Flier, age 76 of Waupun, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Agnesian Healthcare Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac, WI.

Corneil was born on September 11, 1933 in the Town of Waupun, Fond du Lac County, a son of Henry and Hazel (Looman) Flier. He married Ann Buwalda on July 2, 1954 in Waupun. Corneil was a life long area resident and operated a dairy farm near Waupun for many years. He enjoyed participating in area tractor pulling events. Upon his retirement from dairy farming, Corneil helped his neighbor with custom harvesting. Corneil put his faith into action as a member of First Reformed Church of Waupun, where he had previously served as an Elder and Deacon. He also had a mission to assist local residents as an active volunteer with the Waupun Food Pantry.

Corneil is survived by his four children, Gary (Karen) Flier; Randy (Lori) Flier; Noreen (Bryan) Montsma; and Brian (Shelly) Flier, all of Waupun; nine grandchildren, Dawn (Cal) Greenfield; Katie (B.J.) DeMaa; Kimberly (Derek) DeMaa; Scott Flier; Todd Montsma; Justin Montsma; Natosha (Jason) Van Bever; Tiffany (Jason) Zingsheim; and Kirstin Flier; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Janet Kok of Brandon; two brothers, Edward Flier and Harvey (Clara Mae) Flier, both of Waupun; and a sister-in-law, Josephine (Scott) Odiorne, of Waupun.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ann, in 2000; a grandson, Eric Flier; a sister-in-law, Mildred Flier; and a brother-in-law, Harold Kok.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the First Reformed Church, 422 West Franklin Street, Waupun, with the Rev. Paul Wernlund officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Mound Cemetery.

Corneil’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, November 20 from 4 – 7 p.m. at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 West Main Street, Waupun, and on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of services.

A Memorial Fund has been established in Corneil’s name for Agnesian Healthcare Hospice Home of Hope, 400 County Road K, Fond du Lac, WI. 54935; the Waupun Food Pantry, 12 S. Mill Street, Waupun, WI 53963; and for Cancer Research.
