Grace Gladys Wilson, 91, passed away on Thursday, May 7th, at Prairie Ridge Memory Care in Waupun, Wisconsin. She was born on June 3, 1917 to Paul and Minnie (Kroll) Baber and was a graduate of Markesan High School, Class of 1935. On April 21, 1945, she and Glen Robert Wilson, who preceded her in death on July 6, 1976, were married at Pella Lutheran Church in Waupun where she remained an active member of the congregation and was a Ladies Aid Member of Pella since 1956 attending events up until her death. She served on the Waupun elections board and encouraged her family to be active members in the voting process. A natural nurturer and caretaker, she volunteered for the Red Cross and donated over 1500 hours at Bethesda Homes caring for those who could not care for themselves. Education was important to her, volunteering at local schools and Head Start programs whenever she could. Grace will be remembered by those who knew her best for her soft spoken, good-natured, lovable spirit, her love of children, animals and the outdoors. A Spring or Summer day did not go by where you wouldn’t find Grace knee deep in her vast fruit, vegetable and flower gardens. Her love of nature was something she passionately passed on to her children, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her acquaintance and anyone who may have been touched by her all-encompassing “grace”.
Grace is survived by three children, Gary (Sue) Wilson, Poynette, Randy (Gail Feuerstein) Wilson, Appleton, and Cheryl (Martin) Witkowski, Fox Lake; one sister-in-law, Betty Wilson, Oshkosh; six grandchildren, Reid Wilson, Madison, Cami (Patrick) Ponzio, Savage, MN, Tasha (Mike) Piontek, Pewaukee, Britta (Matthew) Brossard, Janesville, Kira (Mike Thurston) Wilson, Poynette, and Andrea (Daniel) Uherka, Beaver Dam; and twelve great-grandchildren, Coleman, Garrett and Teagan Thurston, Noah and Austin Piontek, Kyan and Kenna Ponzio, Ethan, Aiden and Wil Brossard, and Celestine and Markiya Uherka.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Glen, a sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Ed Reitmeyer, two brothers, Ray and Floyd Baber, a sister-in-law, Ruth “Mickey” Baber and brother-in-law, Neil Wilson. She continues to be loved by those whom she has left behind and comforted by those who went before her.
