Barbara Ann Leisten, age 79, died at her home in Waupun on Friday, May 1, 2009. She was born November 11, 1929 in Redgranite, WI to Roy E and Alice (Peck) Bremer. Following her graduation at Brandon High School with the Class of 1948, she attended Berlin Normal School. On August 6, 1955 Barbara married Donald Leisten in Brandon, and they celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2005. Barbara had been employed at Gysbers Supermarket and also as a typist for National Rivet prior to becoming a secretary for twenty-eight years at First Reformed Church of Waupun, where she was an active member. Barbara was the church representative for The Bible League for many years. She was a former member of The Lioness Club of Waupun, and she also belonged to the Waupun Memorial Hospital Auxillary, where she served as secretary. In her spare time, Barbara enjoyed crafting of all types.
Barbara is survived by Donald, her husband of fifty-three years; two sons, Bradley and his wife Darlene Leisten of Snohomish, WA; and Ross and his wife Jill Leisten of Salisbury, Maryland; one grandson, Kristopher and two granddaughters, Madeline and Rachel; her sister, Karey Schmidt of Brandon; and her brother, Hale (Diane) Bremer of Appleton. Other survivors include an aunt, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband’s parents, and a brother-in-law, Donald Schmidt.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at First Reformed Church, 422 West Franklin Street, Waupun, with Pastor Paul Wernlund officiating. A private committal service will take place at Forest Mound Cemetery.
Barbara’s family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, May 4 2009, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 West Main Street, Waupun.
A Memorial Fund is being established in Barbara’s name.
