Margaret Leota Schnur

d. February 19, 2009

Margaret Leota Schnur passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2009, at her home in Waupun at the age of 93.

Margaret was born in Randolph on October 3, 1915, to the late Albert T. and Margaretha E. Zieman, the fifth of eight children. She graduated from Randolph High School with the Class of 1932 as the Valedictorian. On December 15, 1934 she married Lorence Schnur. They operated the family farm in the Town of Waupun from 1938 – 1944. When Lorence entered the United States Navy in 1944, Margaret and son Lorence Jr. moved into the city of Waupun. It was at this point in her life that Margaret began working as a laborer at Waupun’s Ideal Shoe Factory constructing baby shoes. After several years at Ideal, she returned home fulltime when her husband returned from the military. Following a brief respite at home, she went to work at Waupun’s Sears mail order store. While working at Sears, she was recruited to work in the DeHartog Insurance Agency as the office manager. Later it became Capital Insurance where she was employed until retiring in 1985 at the age of 70.

Margaret was an active member of Pella Lutheran Church in Waupun for seventy years. She taught Sunday School and was an active member of the Pella Ladies Aid. She attended church regularly until failing health claimed her mobility. Margaret loved traveling about the USA with her siblings and relatives, who traveled by auto to the east coast and the mountain states. While at home she liked to read and was an avid crossword puzzle worker. She looked forward to the morning coffee klatch with her close friends as they rotated among Waupun’s coffee and lunch spots. She loved her family, and was especially fond of her grandchildren, their lives and fortunes.

Margaret is survived by her son, Lorence Jr. and his wife Colleen, of Oconomowoc; three grandchildren, John Schnur of Oconomowoc; Janine and her husband Dan Chandler of Appleton; and Jennifer Schnur of Phoenix, AZ; and two step-great-grandchildren, Rachel and Carly Chandler. She is further survived by her sister, Dorothy Waterworth of Waupun; her brother, Kenneth Zieman of Randolph; many beloved nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lorence in 1993; her parents; four brothers, Harold of Cambria; Clayton of Dayton, OH; Orlyn of Appleton; Merwyn of Randolph; and a sister, Norma Vorlop of Randolph.

A Celebration of Margaret’s Life will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Pella Lutheran Church, 315 South Madison Street, Waupun with the Rev. David Stevens officiating. Margaret will be laid to rest on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Randolph Cemetery beside her husband Lorence and near her deceased parents, grandparents, and siblings.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service.

A Memorial fund is being established in Margaret’s name.

“ The family wishes to thank the medical community of Waupun Memorial Hospital;
the doctors, nursing staff and aids; the in-home health care provided by the
Agnesian group; and finally the Agnesian Healthcare Hospice Hope for their
never ending support and comfort during her last days.”
