Edward P. “Eppa” Westra, age 89 of Randolph, went to his eternal home on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at the Markesan Resident Home, where he has resided since January.
Ed was born on February 19, 1920 in East Friesland, a son of Peter and Etje (Streekstra) Westra. On March 29, 1940 he was united in marriage to Agnes Hoffman at First Randolph Christian Reformed Church Parsonage. Ed was a life-long area resident who farmed locally. He was also a life-long member of the First Randolph Christian Reformed Church where he has served as Elder and Deacon. Ed enjoyed singing in the male chorus for many years. He was a past board member of both the Randolph Christian School and the Central Wisconsin Christian High School. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed the companionship of his loving family.
He is survived by five children, Jean (Allen) Bronkhorst, Randolph; Everly (Bill) Rens, Tucsan, AZ; Sandra (Rodney) Kok, Cambria; Linda (Jerry) Bartelt; and Edward (Diane) Westra, all of Randolph; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; his brother, Herman Westra, Randolph; two sisters, Harriet Wierenga, Alberta Canada; Jeanette Fisher DeBoer, Cambria, and a sister-in-law, Theresa Westra, Waupun; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife Agnes on December 30, 2006; his parents; two brothers, Henry and Andrew; two sisters, Grace Tamminga and Agnes Douma.
The service to commemorate Ed’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2009 at First Christian Reformed Church, N8876 East Friesland Road, Randolph, with Rev. Ken Prol officiating. Burial will follow in the Friesland Cemetery.
Ed’s family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Friday from 8:30 a.m. until the 10 o’clock hour of service.
A Memorial Fund has been established for the Randolph Christian School, 457 Second Street, Randolph, WI 53956.
