Doris E. (Mielke) Cross

Doris E. (Mielke) Cross, age 72, died unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, April 8, 2009.

Doris was born November 28, 1936 in the Town of Leeds, Morrisonville, WI; the daughter of Russell H. and Florence J. (DeGroff) Mielke. She attended Fall River and Randolph High Schools. On June 30, 1956 she married Daniel A. Cross at the Courtland United Methodist Church near Randolph.

She was a member of the Randolph United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW, Past Matron of Constellation Chapter #176 Order of Eastern Star (O.E.S), Beaver Dam, a member of Waupun Chapter #144 O.E.S. and Fond du Lac Chapter #289 O.E.S. Past Bethel Guardian of Bethel #54, International Order of Job’s Daughters, Beaver Dam, and a life member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, also a member of the American Diabetic Assoc.

Doris taught Sunday school at the Courtland United Methodist Church, in Okinawa and in Fairfax, VA while her husband was in the military service. She worked at the Jack Winters Industries in Columbus and at local canning companies. She graduated from the Northern Virginia Institute of Cosmetology in 1968 and worked as a cosmetologist in Virginia and Wisconsin from 1968 until 1978. She enjoyed crocheting white watching the Packers, NASCAR, Brewers or figure skating on TV. Doris also enjoyed cooking and reading Nora Roberts novels. Doris was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-two years Daniel, one son, Daniel L. (Jodell) Cross, Green Bay; two daughters, Delta J. (Doug) Smith, Pardeeville; Darelyn M. Cross, Waupun; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren. Five brothers, Russell D. (Barbara) Mielke, Columbus; Raymond E. (Sharon) Mielke, Fall River; John F. (Sharon) Mielke, Columbus; Dale D. (Karen) Mielke, Reeseville; Terry L. (Cheryl) Mielke, Rio; three sisters: Mary (Armand) Prust, Jefferson; Eleanor Schraufnagel, Columbus; Ardis (Donald) Voss, Randolph, other relatives and friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her mother, May 27, 2008 and father, April, 23, 1986; two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law.

The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at the United Methodist Church, 227 N. High Street, Randolph, WI., with Pastor Jeffery Meyer officiating. Burial will be in the Cambria Cemetery, Cambria, WI.

Doris’ family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, April 13, 2009 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Randolph Community Funeral Home, 208 S. High Street, Randolph; with an Eastern Star Memorial Service at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call on Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the diabetes association or the charity of your choice.
