Bernard Elroy Schmidt age 84 died peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2009 at the Golden Living Center of Beaver Dam.
Bernie was born August 21, 1924 the son of Louis and Grace (Matheson) Schmidt in the Township of Randolph Columbia County, Wisconsin. He attended area schools and began working on area dairy farms as a hire hand. Bernie was formerly employed with the Randolph Sash and Door, and then for 35 years as a furnace operator at Kirsh Foundry of Beaver Dam. He was a member of the Beaver Dam Eagles Club, enjoyed watching football, baseball, movies and playing cards as he “Just bummed around” at the Golden Living Center, where he made his home for the past five years.
Bernie is survived by a brother, Robert (Leona) Schmidt, Baraboo; two daughters, and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Bernie was preceded in death by his Sister Helen Richter and his parents.
A memorial service to celebrate Bernie’s life will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2009 at the Randolph Community Funeral Home, 208 S. High Street, Randolph with the Rev. Jack Harrison officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Randolph Cemetery.
Bernie’s family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
A memorial fund is being established in Bernie’s name.
