Glendon Kenneth Giese, age 73 of Waupun, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Fountain View Care Center, Ripon.
Glen was born on December 3, 1935 in Waupun, a son of Paul and Frieda (Muenster) Giese. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Waupun High School, Class of 1953. Glen served his country with the United States Air Force from 1955 – 1959. On October 15, 1960 he was united in marriage to Nancy Harmsen at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waupun. They remained local residents, and Glen was employed as a postal carrier for twenty-seven years. After retiring from the post office, Glen worked at Home Contractors and Piggly Wiggly. He was a devoted husband and father, enjoying time spent with his family. He was involved with his children in the Waupun Little League as an umpire for many years. As a dedicated member of Trinity Reformed Church, Glen served several terms as an Elder, taught Sunday School, and was the custodian for many years. Glen and Nancy enjoyed traveling, biking, and square dancing.
Glen is survived by Nancy, his wife of forty-eight years; four children, David Giese of Brownsville; Diane (Tony) Smith, Sr., of Ripon; Duane (Joanne) Giese, of Fond du Lac; and Daniel (Julie) Giese, Waupun; nine Grandchildren, Melissa (Andy) Oechsner, and their children Kaitlyn and Blake; Mandy Sabel and her sons, Tyler and Brandon; Tony Smith Jr.; Megan Smith; Derek Giese; Alyssa Giese and Kailey, Taylor and Daelyn Giese. He is further survived by his step-grandchildren, David and Justine Ziegel, and step-great-granddaughter, Arianna Ziegel; two sisters, Carol (Richard) Henning; Sharon (Norman) Schraufnagel; and sisters-in-law, Clarice (Joel) Koopmans, Randolph; and Leanne (Larry) Schultz, Fox Lake; other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Delores Kubehl; Violet Giese; and parents-in-law, Walter and Helen Harmsen.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Trinity Reformed Church, 521 South Madison Street, Waupun, with the Rev. Calvin J. Vande Zande officiating. At Glen’s request, cremation has taken place. A private family inurnment will occur at a later date in Highland Memory Gardens.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service.
A Memorial Fund has been established for Wycliffe Bible Translators and Habitat for Humanity.
