John Charles DeHaan, age 45, died unexpectedly on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison surrounded by his loving family.
John was born September 1, 1963 in Waupun the son of John I. and Dorothy (Stiemsma) De Haan. John attended area schools and was a Waupun High School graduate. He was a sportsman, enjoyed fishing and competing in area musky tournaments for which he created his own lures. John loved to cook and he perfected his own Salsa recipe. He was employed with the Department of Corrections as a Captain and received many commendations as well as the Officer of the Year Award.
John is survived by his two children; Tiara and Mason De Haan, both at home, his parents, John and Dorothy, Waupun; and ten siblings; Robert (Carol) De Haan, Waupun; Selma (David) Klapper, Brandon; David (Lori) De Haan, Oakfield; Lori (Roy) Lemmenes; Waupun; Darlene (Dan) Coehoorn, Rosendale; Mary (Jon) Schmaltz, Waupun; Dorothy (John) Larson, Waupun; Joyce (Dave) Sturtz, Waupun; Dawn (Bruce) Niemuth, Fond du Lac; Lois De Haan and her special friend Scott Mulder, Waupun; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
A celebration of John’s Life will be held 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at the First Reformed Church, 422 W. Franklin Street, Waupun, The Rev. Paul Wernlund officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Mound Cemetery. John’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 from 4-8 p.m. at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 W. Main Street, Waupun, and at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service.
A memorial fund is being established in John’s name.
