Jean Phyllis Westhuis, age 89 of Waupun, was called home by her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at the Christian Home.
Jean was born on January 27, 1919 in the Town of Trenton, Dodge County, WI, a daughter of Bert and Jennie (Vant Hull) Lemmenes.
On February 25, 1941 she was united in marriage to Wesley Westhuis in Waupun, and remained a lifelong area resident. Jean was a loving wife and mother who made her family the priority, and enjoyed her role as homemaker. Of most importance were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her legacy is her love for her Lord which was exemplified throughout her life. She volunteered significant time to support various organizations, including The World Home Bible League; Dodge County Woman’s Shelter; and the Christian Home, where she enjoyed playing organ to entertain the residents. Besides serving meals at the Waupun Senior Center, Jean also volunteered as the receptionist. She was an avid reader and an enthusiastic card player. As a charter member of Trinity Reformed Church, she was active teaching Bible Class and Sunday School, and singing in the choir.
Jean is survived by four sons, Rev. Ross Westhuis, Albany, NY; Bruce Westhuis and his fiancée Sara Boettcher, Menomonie, WI; Dr. David (Patricia) Westhuis, Indianapolis, IN; Phillip (Sharon) Westhuis, Sommers Point, NJ; two daughters, Joan Westhuis, Green Lake; and Beth Westhuis, Philadelphia, PA. She is further survived by thirteen grandchildren, Todd (Erica) Westhuis, Albany, NY; Elizabeth Westhuis, Mamaroneck, NY; Kelly (Kelsey) Stewart, Indianapolis, IN; Chris (Joan) Perkins, Austin, TX; Troy Balling and fiancée Jessica Waldmann Madison; Matthew (Michelle) Westhuis, Lafayette, IN; Laura Westhuis, Indianapolis, IN; Ben (Tiffany) Nummerdor, Kewaskum; Shaun Nummerdor, Milwaukee; Scott (Charlotte) Kaiden, Phoenix, AZ; Rochelle (Chris) Victor, Accord, NY; Drew (Regan) Kaiden, Brooklyn, NY; and John Westhuis, Sommers Point, NJ; seventeen great-grandchildren; a brother, David (Dorothy) Lemmenes, Waupun; and a sister, Wilma (Larry) Giebink, Beaver Dam; brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988; three brothers, Albertus, Lloyd, and Harold; two sisters, Merle Lemmenes; Kathleen Freriks, Waupun.
A Service to celebrate Jean’s Life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 1, 2008 at Trinity Reformed Church, 521 South Madison Street, Waupun, with the Rev. Thomas M. Daubenspeck officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
Jean’s family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service.
A Memorial fund has been established in Jean’s name.
Jean’s family is very appreciative that as a resident of the Christian Home, Jean received great comfort from the ministry of Chaplain Wick Hubers and gentle, loving care especially from Caroline Gorman, R. N.
