Helen Julia Rhode, age 94, of Waupun died on Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at the Markesan Resident Home.
Helen was born on July 28, 1914 in Pickett, WI, the daughter of Stanish and Katherine (Kuharski) Duzinske. She was united in marriage to Alton Rhode on June 24, 1939 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waupun. Helen worked part-time at the Waupun Florist. She also volunteered for the Waupun Hospital Auxiliary. Helen enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, crafts and playing bridge. In their retirement, Helen and Alton wintered in Arizona where they had an active social life which included lots of dancing. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Waupun, and participated in the Ladies Circle.
Helen is survived by her daughter Sheryl Van Haren of Wauwatosa, and her fiancé Jan Schier of Pewaukee; her son William and his wife Beverly Rhode of Madison; her granddaughter Julie Van Haren and her husband David Hensel of Dallas, TX; her sister-in-law, Winifred Duzinske of Madison; and two nieces, Rosemary Gartzke, Iowa City, IA; and Nancy Dolan, Madison.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996; and a brother Ben Duzinske.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, September 13, 2008 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 West Main Street, Waupun. A Celebration of Helen’s Life will continue at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 525 West Main Street, Waupun, with a service at 11:30 a.m. officiated by Rev. Rolf Amundsen. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens.
