Anthony “Tony” Norbert Rechek, age 86, died on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at his Waupun residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Tony was born on April 27, 1922 in Fox Lake a son of Frank and Josephine (Frymark) Rechek. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Grusnick on August 20, 1955 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waupun where he was a longtime active member. They were engaged in farming in the Burnett area and were blessed with five children. Tony was a well known musician and used his talents as a band member in the area, playing accordion. He also performed with his children for many years in the Rechek Family Band. Following Marjorie’s death in 1970, he was nominated Waupun’s Father of the Year in 1974. Tony was united in marriage to Velda (Timm) Dittmann on November 2, 1982. They continued on their farm until 1990 when they moved to their present home on County Road I in Waupun. Anthony is survived by Velda, his wife of twenty-five years; Five children: Deborah (Mark) Vande Zande, Diana (Mark) Gedamke, Donald (Deb) Rechek, Donna Mutz, all of Waupun, and Daniel Rechek, Burnett; Nine grandchildren: Eric, Ryan, Kyle Vande Zande; Heather, Josh, Jason Gedamke; Danielle Rechek; Laura Mutz and Jonathan Rechek; Three step-children, Judy Barker; Mark (Mary) Dittmann; Brent (Jayne) Dittmann; step-grandchildren: Travis (Kathy) Dittmann; Brad (Penny) Dittmann; Chad Barker; Jared (Annette) Barker; Dr. Lisa (Jeff) Shefchik; Jalayna Dittmann; Bronson Dittmann; Carey (John) Dunkel; Shawn Hearron; Ashley Hearron; Melissa Esquivel and step-great-grandchildren, Carter, Brandon, Quinn, Bryce, Payton, Taylor, Autumn, Alyson, Dustin, Blake, Kolton, and Hayden; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Marjorie on June 9, 1970; his parents; two brothers, Leonard and Eugene; one sister, Phyllis Mroczkowski; and a step son-in-law, Harold Barker.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 30th 2008, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 118 West Main Street, Waupun, with the Fr. John Schmitz officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, June 29th 2008 from 4-8 p.m. at Kohls Community Funeral Home, 405 West Main Street, Waupun, and from 10 a.m to the hour of service at the church.
