Gladys Van Herwaarden, age 86 of Randolph, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2008, surrounded by her family at the Continental Manor where she has resided for the past nine years.
Gladys was born September 1, 1921 in Waupun, a daughter to Raymond and Hattie (Mulder) Greenfield. She was united in marriage to Henry Van Herwaarden on May 26, 1950 at the First Christian Reformed Church in Waupun. They made their home on a farm near Randolph where they raised their children. Gladys was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who made her family her priority. She received great joy visiting with relatives and friends. Gladys was a devoted member of the First Reformed Church of Randolph, teaching Sunday School and Catechism for over thirty years. She also had a heart for missions and was involved with The Bible League for many years where she served as a Key Lady.
Gladys is survived by three sons, Allen (Karen) Van Herwaarden, Fox Lake; Denis (Barbara) Van Herwaarden, Beaver Dam; and Larry Van Herwaarden, Randolph; three grandchildren, Brian (Jessica) Van Herwaarden; Kari (Joe) Westover; and Todd Van Herwaarden; three great grandchildren, Emma and Elijah Westover and Cody Van Herwaarden. She is further survived by her sister, Helena (Art) Kuiper, Mt. Vernon, WA; four brothers, Ruben (Sharon) Greenfield, Beaver Dam; Harold (Carol) Greenfield, Waupun; Wayne (Rachel) Greenfield, Milwaukee; Robert Greenfield, Santa Barbara, CA; three sisters-in-law, Alyce Greenfield, Waupun; Sadie DeBoer, Randolph; and Kathryn Greenfield, Westmont, IL; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991; her parents; two brothers, Clarence and Don Greenfield; and a brother-in-law, Louie DeBoer.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2008 at the First Reformed Church, 406 South High Street, Randolph with the Rev. Calvin Vande Zande officiating. Burial will follow in the Randolph Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church on Thursday, February 14, 2008 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service.
A Memorial Fund has been established in Gladys’ name for The Bible League.
