Hilbert Otto Henke, age 86 of Randolph, passed away on May 16, 2008 at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.
Hilbert was born on January 17, 1922 in the Township of Springfield, Westfield WI., the son of Otto and Dora (Buchholz) Henke. He graduated in 1939 from Westfield High School. After graduation Hilbert served in the CCC Camp at West Salem, WI. Hilbert then served in the U.S. Army from 1942 - 1946 during W.W. II in the European Theater, and he fought in the Battle of the Bulge, serving under General George Patton's Third Army. He was wed to Elaine Anton on May 15, 1948 at Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church in Randolph and they were blessed with sixty years of marriage. Hilbert was a member of Randolph V.F.W. Post 9510, and Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church in Randolph.
He is survived by Elaine, his wife of sixty years; three sons, William, Charles and James, all of Randolph; two daughters, Mary (David) Caine, Arkansas; and Kristine (Larry) Ehrke, Columbus; seven grandchildren, Theresa (Stephen) Peachey, Jean (Greg) Harbort, Roxanne Ehrke, Matthew Ehrke, Michael Korter and his fiancé Vanessa Thompson; Douglas Henke, and Tonya Henke; and a great-grandchild expected in November. He is also survived by one brother, Martin (Betty) Henke of St. James, Minnesota; three sisters, Gertrude Berndt, Caroline (John) Duesterhoft, both of Westfield, and Dorothy Schroeder of Fond du Lac; five sisters-in-law, Phyllis (George) Leonard of Eden, Mary (Roger) Jauregui of Beaver Dam, Carol (Edward) Nelson of Randolph, Hildegard Henke and Verla Henke of Westfield; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Hilbert was preceded in death by twin daughters in infancy; his parents; two brothers, Walter and Gerhardt Henke; his father and mother-in-law, Gustave and Adeline Anton; one sister in law, Marge Hoyt; three brothers-in-law, Harry Berndt, Albert Lenhart, Elroy Schroeder, and a nephew, Donald Henke.
A Memorial Fund has been established for the Elevator Fund of the Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Randolph Community Funeral Home is serving the family.
