Viola Lillian Howie, age 89 of Randolph, entered her eternal home on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at Golden Living Center-Continental Manor, Randolph, surrounded by her family.

Viola was born on June 7, 1919 in the Town of Mackford, Green Lake County, WI, a daughter of George and Juliana (Haase) Weber. She went to the County Line School for her formal education and graduated from Markesan High School, Class of 1937. Viola moved to Milwaukee and attended classes for business education. She married Master Sergeant David M. Howie on October 4, 1947 at Wood V. A. Chapel in Milwaukee. They settled in Menomonee Falls where she was a longtime employee of the Menomonee Falls School System. She retired in 1981 and moved to Randolph to be near relatives. Viola enjoyed the community and had a giving nature, a gift of hospitality, and enjoyed visiting and playing cards with friends. She enjoyed music and was a gifted piano player. Viola was a member of Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Viola is survived by her son, Rev. David W. Howie and his wife Phyllis of Lake Geneva, WI; her daughter, Ellen J. Brown and her husband Jeffrey A. of Cumming, Georgia; two granddaughters, Gina Marie Hartwig and her husband Robert of Chicago; Juliane Beth Brown of Cumming, GA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1973; her daughter Susan Marie Howie; a sister, Ilma Zastrow; and a brother, Norbert Weber.

A Celebration of Viola’s Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2008 at Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church, 335 Jones Drive, Randolph with Rev. David Nottling officiating Burial will be in Vernon United Presbyterian Cemetery in Waukesha County. Viola’s family will receive relatives and friends on Monday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service.

A Memorial Fund has been established for LakeLand Community Church, P.O. Box 85 Lake Geneva, WI. 53147 designated to the Children’s Ministry for the Susan Marie Howie Memorial Fund.
